How to Create a Kid's Website

Ask yourself what kids want. Got an answer? Well, they want fun and freedom. There's no better way to give them this fun and freedom then creating a kid's website.
STEPS :

Find a provider. There are many free providers available. Or, you can ask an adult to pay for a separate website. Remember, though, a separate website will cost you money.

Find something to make your website with. An expensive package will have better quality. However, you can find some cheaper alternatives, too.

Design your site. Make sure all of the pages use the same style. You could use a master page or background to do so. It's a good idea to have a logo in the top of the page and a list of pages. Then you can add whatever you need onto the page. Remember, each piece of software is different.

How to Start Your Website

Are you wanting to start your very own website but do not know where to begin? In the following steps below you will find everything that will help you begin the process of starting and operating your very own website online.

STEPS :

Decide what type of website you want to create. Today there are more than 186 million websites on the Internet, with 31.5 million of those added just during the year of 2008. Luckily you can categorize the 186 million into Seven common categories, Personal, E-Commerce, Informational, Blog/Forum, Social, File Sharing, Mobile Device.

Select a domain name for your website. When choosing the right domain name for your site be sure to choose one that pertains to the content that is associated with what your site is about. Try not to make one that is confusing or hard to spell. This may give you problems latter on with attracting visitors. Also be sure to have a few options for a domain name when you go to buy one. A lot of times your first choice is already going to be taken. Most common domain names can usually be purchased for around $4.99 to $12.99.

Find the right web host that suits your needs. There are plenty of website hosting companies out there on the World Wide Web. Whether you are building your site yourself or paying someone else to do it for you, you need to find a host that will meet the needs of the type of website you want to create. Hosting plans are usually fairly cheep and come with loads of extra stuff to help you with your site

Find the right design for your website. The Design of a website is extremely important to its survival no matter what type it is. Remember that everything that is involved with your site is incorporated into its design, from attracting visitors to advertising. The most important thing to remember is to make your site easy to navigate and not confusing to your visitors.

Attract visitors to your site. Once your site is up and running you need to be able to attract visitors in order to make it successful. There are several ways you can accomplish this. Submit your site to search engines, Post comments on Blogs/Forums, Trade links with other websites, Submit article comments, list with web directories.

Attract advertising to your site. This step is optional of course, depending on whether you want to make money of your site. If so the first thing you need to make sure of is that people are aware of your site. No one will be willing to advertise with your site if it does not have a steady flow of visitors. Signing up with an affiliate program is a good and easy way to earn money for your site because there is really no work involved for you. Last, you can offer advertising space on your website. Most people do this by displaying a small image that says "advertise here" somewhere on their site. Be sure to link the image to your contact page so potential clients can reach you.

How to Protect Folders and Files With Window XP Professional Edition

Window XP Professional Edition sets the standard for security, computer performance, and reliability.
It is primarily used for corporate networks, for the majority of computers on small business networks or for all home users who require security.
With hackers trying to access sensitive data on your home computer, you can protect access to your folders and files.

Steps

Log on your computer as administrator with a password.
Most owners of home computers are administrators after the initial installation of Window XP Professional.
If you're not sure, follow these steps:
Select "Start", "Control Panel" and the "User Accounts" icon.
If your account says "Computer Administrator" and "Password Protected", you're done.
If you're not "Computer Administrator", select "Change my account type" to "Computer Administrator".
If you're not "Password Protected", select "Change my password" and enter a new password.
Close the "User Accounts" window by selecting the "Red X" at the top right hand corner.
Select "Start", "Shut Down", "Restart", "OK".

2
Assign or Modify Permissions.
For purposes of this demonstration, you'll create a folder and will be using this folder.
Select "Start", "My Computer", "View" (top left hand corner), "Explorer Bar", "Folders".
Check that "Simple File Sharing" is disabled. (The default Windows XP setting is for Simple File Sharing to be enabled)!
Select "Tools" (5th menu), "Folder Options", "View" tab.
Scroll down "Advanced Settings" to bottom option ("Use simple file sharing (Recommended)") and uncheck if checked.
Select "OK".
Select Drive (C:), "File" (top left hand corner), "New", "Folder". Key in your first name as the new folder name and hit [Enter].
With the right mouse button, select the new folder with your first name, select "Properties", then the "Security" tab on the top.
Under "Groups or users names:", select "Administrators".
Under "Permissions for Administrators", notice all permissions are checked under the "Allow" column.
Under "Groups or users names:", select "Everyone".
Under "Permissions for "Everyone", notice all permissions are checked under the "Allow" column except the "Full Control" permission.
Select the "Deny" column for the "Modify" permission.
This will prevent others on your computer from having access to this folder.

Grant or Deny Special Permissions.
Using the same folder you created for this demonstration, select the folder with the right mouse button, select properties.
Under the "Group or user names:", select "Everyone" to grant or deny special permissions and select the "Advanced" button.
Select "Everyone" and the "Edit" button.
Notice all permissions are inactive while "Full Control" and "Delete Subfolders and Files" are unchecked.
Do not change any settings.4

Take Ownership of Files and Folders.
In the "Advanced Security Settings" dialog box, select the "Owner" tab at the top.
As Administrator, you can take ownership of a folder or file by selecting your name below the "Change owner to:" column.
Select the "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" check box.
Select the "Permissions" tab at the top.

Prevent Permissions Inheritance.
By default, subfolders and files inherit permissions that you assign to their parent folder. To prevent a subfolder or file from inheriting permissions from a folder, clear the "Inherit From Parent The Permission Entries That Apply to Child Objects" check box.

Warnings
Always make sure as the Administrator you have full control permissions on all objects.

How to Protect Your Computer from Your Parents

You definitely want to customize your PC, and even more so protect it from your parents, roommates, or whoever lives in your house.

    Steps

Set up a password. This is key. You'll want a distinct password, I've been able to guess a lot of my friends' passwords, just to show them how easy it is. You'd be surprised how many people have their username as their password. So make the password a secret obsession you have, or something from your childhood or even a random object eg: 'cd case'.
    2
Make others in your household an account. Almost 75% of the time, people will stop going into your account if you make them their own. Be sure to give them limited access, unless you want them to be able to access your account.
    3
There is obviously still a chance that they'll get into your files and mess around. Here's what you do: go to your desktop. Right-click and make a compressed zipped folder. Name it Desktop Stuff or whatever you want. Put all of your desktop files except My Computer and Recycling Bin, into the file. Then go into the folder, and click file, add password. Add one, different from your username. It can be a simpler one, but not easy! if you are an advanced user, make a encrypted file container with FreeOTFE or  truecrypt.
    4
Go to My Documents, make a compressed zipped folder, named my documents, same thing, again different password.
    5
If you don't want people to know your internet history, there are TWO things to do. One, set your History to 0 days to keep, by clicking Tools > Internet Options, in Internet Explorer. Also in Tools > Internet Options, clear your history every time after you use the Internet.

You don't want friends to get into any of your online accounts, right? Click Tools > Internet Options, again and go to Content on the top of the box. Click AutoComplete, and then clear passwords, and clear forms, and then uncheck all the little boxes, so they don't save again.
    7
For extra security, download Mozilla Firefox if you don't already have it. Parents won't check it, and it's easy to clear everything but your favorites - Tools, Clear Private Data.
    8
You can use Google Chrome Incognito feature for private internet browsing. Using this feature allows you to surf internet in a way that no history is saved in the browser.

For protection from password cracking programs such as Ophcrack, press the Windows key and R at the same time, type in syskey and press enter, choose update, select password startup, and type a password. This will encrypt your password with another password to make using software such as Ophcrack to crack the password much more difficult.

    Warnings
§   Never put extremely personal info on your pc; friends can get into it if they have hacking skills.
§   This does not protect you against hackers.
§   Export or use of strong encryption may be restricted in some jurisdictions.
§   Your parents might get suspicious if you delete your whole history, so just delete the sites you don't want them to see.

    How to Quit Facebook

Maybe your affinity for Facebook began with a simple desire to keep in touch with your friends, or make new ones online. Or perhaps you were just bored. But now Facebook is the thorn in your side, and possibly a bona fide addiction. If you're finding it difficult to spend an hour of your waking life without checking or thinking about Facebook, you may be looking for a way out. This is it.

    Steps

    1. 1
Admit you might have an addiction to Facebook. and keep track of what you actually do on Facebook. After every Facebook session, ask yourself: "What did I just accomplish by checking Facebook?" Odds are, you're probably just logging in to see if you've been poked, or for updates of when your friends change their profile image, write a new note, add a new song to their favorite music, and do other little things that you can really live without knowing. But those might be the little things that keep you on a very short leash. At first you're confirming a new friend, and next thing you know, you've spent an hour looking at all the new people you're connected to. Recording your Facebook activities can help you realize how much time you actually spend getting nothing constructive done.
    2. 2
Define your goals on Facebook. Make a list of what you really want from it. Why did you originally sign up? So you could remember friends' birthdays? Find and keep old friends? Meet people with similar interests? Whatever your goals may be on Facebook, you need to make sure that you devote your time there to accomplishing those goals, instead of going off track with activities that get you nowhere. If you have no goals (i.e. if you signed up just because you had nothing better to do), skip the next step.
    3. 3
Make and follow a Facebook schedule. After each Facebook goal, write down how much time and at what frequency you'll need to be on Facebook to achieve that goal. Then write down the total number of hours, per week, that you should be spending on Facebook. If it seems like too much time, adjust your activity times accordingly. Following this schedule might bring your Facebook addiction under control without requiring you to quit altogether. Some examples:

      • Stay in touch with college friends - Check every other day, spend no more than 15 minutes responding to messages only from college friends. (1 hour per week)
      • Maintain my group - Check every morning and evening for 10 minutes each, only to remove any spam or junk. Note to self: do not respond to posts, comments or messages during this time. (2 hours, 20 minutes per week)
      • Keep my group interesting - Spend 30 minutes every other day reading all of the comments and responding. (2 hours per week)
      • Finding new friends - Browse profiles for 30 minutes, twice a week. (1 hour per week)
      • Total maximum time I plan to spend on Facebook: 6 hours, 20 minutes.
    4. 4
Think of other things you could be doing with your time spent on Facebook. If you find yourself spending, say, 10 hours a week on Facebook, make a list of all the other things you could accomplish in that time. You could:

    5. 5
Block the time you spend on Facebook using parental controls. Use such controls asEzInternetTimer or TimeUpKidz.
    6. 6
      Goodbye, Facebook account
       Goodbye, Facebook account
Leave Facebook. If you've created a schedule and couldn't stick to it, or if you've decided that any time spent on Facebook is wasted, then you may need to quit cold turkey. This is a last resort, and is easier said than done. There are two options here. You can deactivate your account or delete your account:
      • Deactivate your facebook Account - this lets you take a breather without losing the information; or
      • Permanently delete your Facebook account - this is the real end, everything will go!
      • If you've started any groups, transfer admin rights to someone you trust.
      • Clear every last bit of information from your profile. Don't forget to remove your photo!
      • Send an email to your Facebook contacts explaining your decision to leave. Include your current contact information so they can get in touch with you without Facebook.
    7. 7
Find alternatives to using Facebook. If you've gotten into the habit of using Facebook messages instead of email, update your email address book so you can get in touch with your friends next week and continue your correspondence outside of Facebook.
    8. 8
Turn your profile into a pile of useless data! This is another way to "delete" a Facebook account, and you might have fun doing it. When you wake up the next day, your profile is gone. For good. Amen.
      • Delete all your "friends" - unless you want to show the World you're quitting for good.
      • Change the profile’s name - you can do that. Be sure to choose something really lousy.
      • Fill it up with offensive content - texts, dubious pics and all.
      • State clearly that Facebook employees are just a bunch of - beep - beep - beep - fill in the beeps with the most politically incorrect insults.
      • Invite lots of randomly picked people to become your “friends”.
    9. 9
Find a Facebook substitute. A lot of people get addicted to Facebook because they check it when there's nothing else to do, like in between classes, or during a lunch break; then the curiosity spills over into time that should be spent doing other things, like studying or working. You need to find something to do during those little windows of time in order to prevent relapse. There are several ways to give yourself a "Facebook patch":
      • Stay away from the computer as much as you can. For many of us, getting in front of a monitor is a default activity. Try to find other things to do that'll keep you away from the computer and therefore, Facebook. Keep a notebookMeditateFinger weave. Learn to doimpressive tricks with a tech deck. Call your friends on the phone or do something fun with them in person. Anything that you can do anywhere and for short periods of time is good.
      • If you're at a computer during critical relapse times, find another website to log onto and read instead of Facebook. Yes, you may get addicted to that instead, so try to find something that's actually a constructive pursuit, like checking news websites, learning a new word each day, sharpening your mental skills by solving a sudoku, practicing that foreign language you decided to learn, or contributing to the How-to Manual Anyone Can Edit.
